About "Getting Ready to Race"

As a massive car fan, I love to paint cars, and often attend the Goodwood motorsport events to source inspiration for new works. The atmosphere as the finest classic racing cars come alive on the tracks is so exhilarating. This piece captures the tense moment of anticipation just before a race, as the driver informs his engineer about a few tweaks they need to do on the next run. The sun pierces dramatically through a haze of smoke, hinting at the imminent roar of the engines as they hit the gas and rocket into the distance. Watercolour was the perfect medium for capturing the machine fumes in the air, as it allows for soft blending and edges.
