About "The Hangman Hills"
I painted this piece from above Watersmouth in North Devon, looking down towards Combe Martin, a natural cove which is used as a harbour offering refuge from rough seas. On this day, the sun beamed down, bathing the scene in light and intensifying the vibrancy of colours. I chose to paint with gouache as it is the perfect medium for creating highly pigmented blocks of colour, allowing me to capture the lush greens of the headland and the blues of the sea and sky.
