About "Leather Chair and Book"
The main challenge when painting this piece was to accurately represent the feel of the chair's leather material. To emulate the smooth and shiny texture of the leather, I kept brush marks refined and accentuated the highlights where light was being reflected. With the sun beaming through the window, strong shadows were cast giving a great tonal variety and solidity to the chair. Getting the texture and tones right helps to bring an object to life, so the chair looks more convincingly inviting and cosy.
