About "I'm Number One!"
Excited to get started on my daily painting journey, I began by capturing the first light of the day on this fresh November morning. The early morning is one of my favourite times of day to paint, as the low sun casts a warm light over the landscape and intensifies the shadows. I painted this scene with gouache, my favourite medium for achieving vibrant colour, allowing me to capture the intense purples and pinks of the heather. This stunning stretch of coast is just five minutes walk from my house on the South West Coast Path, a walking route stretching 630 miles with so many spectacular views for painting. I expect that I will revisit this spot several times over the next year. This precious view is found between Ilfracombe and Lee, with Wales to the North and Lundy Island further West. There have been some landslides here recently, so it was a precarious place for me to paint - but well worth it!
