About "High Line Perspective"
To create this piece, I worked from sketches I did along The High Line in New York when I visited in October 2018. The High Line is a spectacular elevated garden, set on a former railway track on the west side of Manhattan. On this 1.45 mile long urban oasis, I had the opportunity to walk through the towering skyscrapers and observe such a variety of views of the city skyline. Whilst I painted in my sketchbook to record the sights, I was amused by the amount of people that stopped to watch me paint! It got so busy that the walkway became blocked, and I eventually got moved on. I managed to get down on paper just enough information for this piece, where the sun beams from behind the buildings, casting sharp shadows on the tunnelling streets below.
